What is MonkeyWrench?

You are monkeys kept in captivity on a space station. Trouble! Some asteroid or alien attack or something releases the lot of you. It's your one chance of escape! Freedom! A way home!

Did I mention you're monkeys?

Materials

You should have a pile of tokens, something like fifty. These can be anything, but something thematic like nuts and bolts would be appropriate. Each Player grabs ten at the start of the game. You also need to print the Crazy, Grumpy and Hungry cards.

Conflict!

If ever you find yourself in conflict with another player or the GM tells you to, you roll the dice. Generally you roll one die and consult the Monkey Chart below. Anyone (including you) can spend tokens to make you reroll. If you earn a card, take it from the Player who has it. Her monkey is no longer afflicted and you suffer instead.

Facts!

When you want to create something in the game that has not been established as fact (either by questioning the GM or through prior narration) you roll just like a Conflict. Success means the thing (at least, the general idea you had) exists. Failure means the GM is free to hose you with terrible facts. "You thought it was a mop, but the thing snakes up your arm!"

Crazy, Hungry and Grumpy

If you own one of these cards and you don't act as per at least one of those cards before rolling the dice, you roll two dice and pick the lowest when consulting the chart.

Spending Tokens

You can spend a token to reroll one die. In fact, you can spend a token to force another Player to reroll her die! The exception to this is rolls of 1 or 6 which require two tokens to be spent.

The Monkey Chart

You roll a die and consult the chart. Roleplay the result.

You Done Rolling?

Good. A roll of 1-3 is a failure, and a roll of 4-6 is a success. The higher the roll the better and the lower the roll the worse. The GM will tell you what happens and remember: A failure is a failure. If the custodian-bot is talking you into grabbing a live wire and you fail the roll, your monkey grabs with gusto!

Earning Tokens

You earn a token when somebody laughs. If everyone laughs for a good minute, go ahead and steal two tokens while everyone's distracted.

Ending the Game

The game ends when the monkeys escape the space station. By any means.
